Nonu Re Signs with Blues and NZRU

Today it was announced that Ma'a Nonu has re-signed back with the Blues after a tumultuous season with the Highlanders, and a highly publicised off season signing saga. His signing is also an extension on his current contract with the NZRU taking him through to 2015, and of course the next Rugby World Cup.

Nonu has been welcomed back to the Blues, after he controversially left the club for the Highlanders for the 2013 season, with many predicting that perhaps an overseas contract was the only option for the midfielder.

However Sir John Kirwan has welcomed Nonu back into the fold, with hopefully better results that when he last turned out for the club, "He's one of the best midfielders in the world so to have someone with his abilities is a huge asset to the squad".

One of the most talked about aspects of rugby this year was Nonu and his place in the All Blacks after a less than ordinary Super Rugby campaign. It was overly debated as to why he has not shone in Super Rugby for a couple of seasons but can continue to produce the goods when he pulls on the illustrious black jersey.

The scrutiny that Nonu has experienced will of course continue next year for the start of the 2014 campaign. As a die hard Cantabrian supporter, I am looking forward to seeing what comes of his return up north to Auckland, wonder how his combination will go with league convert Benji Marshall joining the backline.

What do you think of the Blues signing him back?
