Constellation Cup - Game One

I know this is a tad bit late but I have been so consumed with life I haven't had time to update things on here.

First and formost our Silver Ferns have won the Constellation Cup for the first time in its history and what an interesting series it was.

Game One
Always a tough ask but the first game of the series was held in Melbourne and for many teams it has always been a tough journey to pull off a win away from their home turf. The biggest concern for the Silver Ferns was the withdrawal of Captain Courageous Casey Williams just before game time with a mild knee injury and obviously not worth risking with quite a long international season ahead.

However with our strong defense end Katrina Grant and Leana De Bruin stepped up and contained the Australian attack end.

There were always big questions coming into the game regarding the Silver Ferns attack end with such an inexperienced wing attack, Millie Lees playing her first game against Australia. They were quickly diminished with her game and especially playing against one of the toughest and most physical defenders around in Mo'onia Gerrard. Of course a couple of turnovers came with the inevitable nerves but she fead beautifully and worked strongly with Langman in the midcourt.

The formidable Irene and Maria combination was fearless as always. While the Australian's struggled until the injection of Caitlin Bassett in the final quarter.

Silver Fern Shooting Stats
Irene Van Dyk - 28/29
Maria Tutaia - 26/29

Australian Diamonds Shooting Stats
Cath Cox - 27/33
Erin Bell - 2/4
Natalie Medhurst - 8/12
Caitlin Bassett - 15/16

Gotta love having live netball back on our screens. Especially such a great sporting rivalry!
